BEIJING, Sept. 23 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed higher on Thursday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.38 percent, at 3,642.22 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.77 percent higher at 14,387.36 points.
The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices stood at 1.32 trillion yuan (about 204 billion U.S. dollars), up from 1.15 trillion yuan on the previous trading day.
Shares related to the paper-making industry led the gains, while those related to the coal sector led the losses.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, gained 0.57 percent to close at 3,182.47 points Thursday. Enditem
