Israel's active COVID-19 cases drop to below 70,000

JERUSALEM, Sept. 23 (Xinhua) -- The total number of active COVID-19 cases in Israel decreased by 5,822 to 69,076, the state's Ministry of Health said Thursday.

This is the first time since August 24 that the number of active cases in Israel has fallen below 70,000.

The ministry also reported 5,921 new coronavirus cases, bringing the country's total infections to 1,250,200.

The death toll from the virus rose by three to 7,592, while the number of patients in serious condition remained unchanged at 723.

The total recoveries rose to 1,173,532 after 11,432 newly recovered cases were added.

The number of people who have received the first doses of COVID-19 vaccine in Israel reached nearly 6.08 million, or 64.7 percent of its total population, while 5.6 million have taken two doses and over 3.1 million have got three jabs, according to the ministry. Enditem
