HARBIN, Sept. 24 (Xinhua) -- In Mudanjiang, a city in northeast China's Heilongjiang Province, almost everyone knows 62-year-old Di Huanran, who has become a local celebrity through his decades of devotion to cliff diving.
In 1983, for the sake of disproving an old rumor that a log would be smashed to pieces if it fell down the Diaoshuilou waterfall, Di tried his hands at diving here.
When he came to the waterfall, he found that the water at the cliff was not like the rumor said. "It felt like a high-pressure water gun," Di said. He then flew down the cliff successfully.
Since his first diving attempt, he has been addicted to the sport. "When I am diving off the cliff, it feels like I'm flying and embracing nature," Di said.
Now, at two o'clock almost every afternoon, tourists wait for Di by the Diaoshuilou waterfall. Di's waterfall diving performance has become a special view in Jingpo Lake resort.
