QUFU, Sept. 28 (Xinhua) -- A ceremony marking the 2,572nd birth anniversary of ancient Chinese educator and thinker Confucius is held at the Confucius Temple in Qufu, east China's Shandong Province.
Born near modern-day Qufu, Confucius (551-479 B.C.) founded a school of thought known as Confucianism that influenced later generations.
He is believed to be the first person to set up private schools in China and enroll students from all walks of life.
