Russia's COVID-19 cases top 8 mln

A new record of 34,325 COVID-19 infections have been confirmed over the past 24 hours.

MOSCOW, Oct. 18 (Xinhua) -- Russia has registered 34,325 COVID-19 infections over the past 24 hours, a new record high since the pandemic hit the country, taking the national tally to 8,027,012, the official monitoring and response center said Monday.

Meanwhile, the nationwide death toll grew by 998 to 224,310, while recoveries increased by 16,431 to 7,017,055, the center said.

The capital city of Moscow reported 6,823 new cases, taking the citywide caseload to 1,726,237.

More than 47.3 million Russians have been fully vaccinated, according to media reports.
