BEIJING, Oct. 19 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed higher on Tuesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.7 percent, at 3,593.15 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 1.04 percent higher at 14,499.77 points.
The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices stood at 972.8 billion yuan (about 151.27 billion U.S. dollars), down from 1 trillion yuan on the previous trading day.
Stocks related to breeding and sodium-ion batteries led the gains, while tourism and education sectors suffered losses.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, gained 0.64 percent to close at 3,297.29 points. Enditem
