BAGHDAD, Nov. 29 (Xinhua) -- Iraq presented on Monday a preliminary report of an ongoing investigation showing a video clip of a drone dropping a bomb during the failed assassination attempt against Prime minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi earlier in November.

Iraqi National Security Adviser Qasim al-Araji said during a televised press conference that two drones participated in the attack, and revealed video showing one drone dropping a bomb on the residence while the other drone was not visible in the video because it was jammed and moved away from its target.

He said that two locally-made bombs landed on the residence, one of which exploded in the yard, and the other fell on the roof but did not explode.

"Five meters separated the first bomb from the second, and they targeted al-Kadhimi's exit from the residence and the place where he sits," al-Araji said, adding that this proves that the two bombs were exactly targeting the prime minister himself.

He also said that there is accurate information about the exact location of the drones' launch and landing sites.

He pointed out that "two teams of explosives and forensic experts were sent to the crime scene, but they detonated the projectile (unexploded bomb on the roof) without taking fingerprints."

"The investigation committee decided to detain the members of the two teams for interrogation at the Ministry of Interior," he added.

Al-Araji stressed that "the investigation committee is carrying out its duty without any pressure, and has not yet accused any person or group, as the investigation needs more time."

On November 7, al-Kadhimi escaped unharmed from an armed drone assassination attempt before dawn on his residence in the heavily fortified Green Zone, which houses some of the main offices of the Iraqi government and foreign embassies.

Later on, al-Kadhimi said that he had identified the perpetrators of the failed assassination attempt, and vowed that they will be brought to justice.

The assassination attempt came amid protests by followers of political parties rejecting last month's election results. Enditem
