AMMAN, Dec. 1 (Xinhua) -- The Jordanian-Syrian Joint Free Zone was reopened on Wednesday with the aim of boosting trade exchange between the two countries, said a statement by Jordanian Ministry of Industry and Trade
The announcement came after a meeting between Jordanian Minister of Industry and Trade Yousef Shamali and Syrian Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade Mohammed Al-Khalil, according to the statement.
Established under the Economic Cooperation Agreement between Jordan and Syria, the Joint Free Zone has been fully rehabilitated and is now ready to receive local, regional and international investments, the statement said.
Director-General of the Jordanian-Syrian Free Zone Company Irfan Khasawneh said resuming the zone's activities is a result of efforts by partners after a seven-year hiatus.
In 2014, the zone secured about 560 investment contracts and three tons of merchandise entered it, according to Khasawneh. Enditem
