Iran reports 2,196 daily COVID-19 cases, 6,167,650 in total

TEHRAN, Dec. 17 (Xinhua) -- Iran's health ministry on Friday reported 2,196 new COVID-19 cases, taking the country's total infection to 6,167,650.

The pandemic also claimed 46 lives in the past 24 hours, taking the overall tally to 130,992, Iran's Ministry of Health and Medical Education said in an update.

A total of 5,995,734 people have recovered from the disease or been discharged from hospitals across the country, while 2,941 remain in intensive care units, it said.

By Friday, 59,026,227 Iranians have received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, and 50,109,890 of them have taken two jabs. Meanwhile, 3,460,454 people in the country have received the third dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

The report added that 40,569,784 tests have so far been carried out across the country. Enditem
