Vietnam reports 16,325 new COVID-19 cases, over 30,000 deaths in total

HANOI, Dec. 21 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam reported 16,325 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, including 16,316 locally transmitted and nine imported, according to its Ministry of Health.

Among the localities, the Vietnamese capital Hanoi logged the highest number of infections on Tuesday with 1,704 cases, followed by southern Ca Mau province with 1,590 cases, and southern Tay Ninh province with 939 cases.

The infections brought the country's total tally to 1,571,780 with 30,041 deaths, said the ministry. Nationwide, as many as 1,160,090 COVID-19 patients have so far recovered, up 50,191 from Monday.

Over 140.4 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines, including 63 million second shots, have been administered, according to the ministry.

Vietnam has by far gone through four coronavirus waves of increasing scale, complication, and infectivity. As of Tuesday, the country has registered nearly 1.57 million locally transmitted COVID-19 cases since the start of the current wave in late April, the ministry said. Enditem
