Indonesia reports 179 new COVID-19 cases, 10 more deaths

JAKARTA, Dec. 22 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia recorded 179 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, bringing the total tally to 4,261,072, according to the health ministry.

An additional 252 patients have recovered from COVID-19, bringing the total number of recoveries to 4,112,292 in the Southeast Asian country.

Meanwhile, the overall coronavirus death toll has risen to 144,034 including 10 newly reported deaths.

More than 153 million people in Indonesia have received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, while over 108 million are fully vaccinated. The country has administered over 262 million doses including the third doses.

On Tuesday, the health ministry recorded two new cases of the highly transmissible Omicron variant of COVID-19.

The ministry's spokesperson Siti Nadia Tarmizi said the two infected people had a travel history to London. Enditem
