LUSAKA Jan. 28 (Xinhua) -- Zambian president on Tuesday re-launched and commissioned a plant, a major producer of edible oil and other products.

The plant was closed in 2018 and left thousands of people in limbo.

President Edgar Lungu, who commissioned the plant, said the plant will make Zambia become a major exporter of edible oils and other products from soya beans, cotton and maize.

The plant, he said, will provide market solutions to tens of thousands of small holder growers in the maize and soya beans value chains in four of the country's 10 provinces.

According to him, the re-launch and commissioning of the plant also provides a great opportunity for Zambia to increase non-traditional exports.

He further assured that the government will continue to work with the private sector to create a conducive business environment.

"My government is championing diversification for sustained growth and socio-economic transformation driven by agriculture and manufacturing among others," he said.
