TUNIS, Feb. 27 (Xinhua) -- The Assembly of People's Representatives (Tunisian parliament) granted on Wednesday night its confidence to the new government led by Prime Minister-designate Elyes Fakhfakh, said state TV channel.

Composed of 30 ministers and two secretaries of state, the new Tunisian government received 129 favorable votes, 77 rejections and one abstention.

The new cabinet needed at least 109 out of the 217 possible votes for approval.

Fakhfakh's cabinet should take an oath in front of President Kais Saied this week, and officially begin a five-year term.

The deputy of the Heart of Tunisia party, Osama Khelifi, assured Thursday on the private Radio Mosaique FM that no elected member of his parliamentary bloc voted for the new government.

Khelifi said that the Heart of Tunisia party, which has 38 seats in parliament, will be a constructive opposition to exercise its surveillance role.
