NAIROBI, Feb. 27 (Xinhua) -- Kenya's researcher Agnes Wanjiku Mandu, a member of the country's anti-doping support group, has been appointed to serve for a three-year term on the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) education committee.
Local media reported Thursday that the appointment will certainly bolster the country's effort to fight doping.
WADA report says 138 athletes from Kenya tested positive to banned drugs between 2004 and 2018. Another 54 cases have had positive sanctions by Athletics Integrity Unity (AIU) in the last two years.
Mandu works as Anti-doping Agency of Kenya (ADAK) Director of Education and will now serve under former Malian basketball player Kady Kanoute Tounkara, who was appointed the new chair of the WADA Education Committee in January.
AIU, which is an independent Anti-doping agency of the World Athletics, has ranked Kenya under category one together with Ethiopia, Venezuela and Ukraine with a high number of possible dope cases or athletes who can be influenced to cheat globally.
