Morocco reports 3,758 coronavirus cases, 158 deaths

RABAT, April 24 (Xinhua) -- The death toll from the novel coronavirus reached 158 in Morocco among the 3,758 confirmed cases, the Health Ministry said on Friday.

A total of 190 new cases of COVID-19 were confirmed on Friday, while 486 patients have recovered so far, said the ministry's spokesman in his daily briefing.

The most affected regions are Casablanca with 982 cases, Marrakech-Safi with 802, Fes Meknes with 499, and Tangier with 492 cases.

Moroccan Ministry of Interior has announced a nationwide curfew for a month, starting Saturday.

This curfew is aimed to implement social distancing, and encourage people to stay home from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m local time (1900 GMT to 0500 GMT) during the holly month of Ramadan which begins in Morocco on Saturday.

Morocco extended on April 18 the state of health emergency until May 20, as part of strengthening preventive measures to combat the spread of the coronavirus. Enditem
