BANGKOK, May 5 (Xinhua) -- Thailand's Ministry of Commerce on Tuesday said in a press briefing that Thailand's inflation rate in April fell 2.99 percent from the impact of COVID-19 and global crude oil prices slumped.

"April's inflation rate has been the sharpest fall in 10 years and nine months," said Pimchanok Vonkorpon, director-general of the Commerce Ministry's Trade Policy and Strategy Office.

"Major factors leading to the fall include energy prices which saw the biggest drop in 11 years and two months, as well as discount goods and services under the government's measures aimed at reducing the cost of living during the COVID-19 crisis."

She also said that raw food prices continued to rise due to Thailand's severe drought.

So therefore, we have downgraded Thailand's 2020 headline inflation forecast to a range of -0.2 to 1.0 percent, she said. Enditem
