Kyrgyzstan officially approves results of parliamentary elections

BISHKEK, Dec. 15 (Xinhua) -- The Central Election Commission of Kyrgyzstan on Wednesday announced its approval for the results of the recent parliamentary elections in single-mandate constituencies in the country.

According to the results of the elections held on Nov. 28, six parties have overcome the five percent barrier.

For the first time, the parliamentary elections in Kyrgyzstan were held through a mixed electoral system, with 54 members of the 90-member parliament elected according to a proportional system from political parties, and 36 others elected from single-mandate constituencies on a majority basis.

Twenty one political parties were registered to participate in the elections, more than 280 candidates were registered in single-mandate constituencies.

A total of 1,281,622 voters or 34.94 percent of eligible voters cast ballots. Enditem
