LONDON, March 9 (Xinhua) -- A ceremony took place Monday in London to honor thousands of Commonwealth troops who fought against Japanese forces in the Far East campaign during World War II.

The Commonwealth troops were honoured at the annual Memorial Gates ceremony in London to mark the service and sacrifice of the brave citizens from Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, Europe and the Pacific.

The ceremony, which included a one-minute silence and wreath laying, was attended by Minister for Defense People and Veterans, Johnny Mercer, and armed forces personnel from the army, navy and air force.
