WASHINGTON, Dec. 13 (Xinhua) -- U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs David Stilwell will travel to Vietnam next week, U.S. State Department said in a statement on Friday.
During his stay in Hanoi from Monday to Wednesday, Stilwell will inaugurate celebrations for the 25th anniversary of U.S.-Vietnam diplomatic relations, according to the statement.
Stilwell will also discuss shared priorities ahead of Vietnam's 2020 ASEAN Chairmanship and its 2020-2021 UN Security Council non-permanent membership term, the statement added.
Former U.S. President Bill Clinton lifted the trade embargo on Vietnam in 1994, and Washington and Hanoi normalized bilateral relations the year after.
