Robbery suspect injured by police in southern U.S.

HOUSTON, Jan. 8 (Xinhua) -- An armed robbery suspect was shot by a police officer Wednesday at a Walmart in Texas, the United States, according to local police.

A Twitter message posted by the Houston police department said that an off-duty officer witnessed an armed robbery attempt while she and the male suspect were in the customer service line.

The officer fired and wounded the man, who has been taken to hospital.

No other injuries were reported.

The shooting happened at a Walmart about 27 km northeast of downtown Houston.
