NAIROBI, Sept. 19 (Xinhua) -- Kenya's football governing body on Sunday appointed Engin Firat as the new head coach of the country's men's national football team.
Football Kenya Federation (FKF) unveiled the Turk who succeeds Jacob Mulee, who left his position on September 14 by what the federation termed "mutual consent".
Firat will be assisted by local tacticians Kennedy Odhiambo and William Muluya, while retired international Jerim Onyango was also appointed goalkeeping coach.
Firat was most recently head coach of the Moldova national team. He has previously had coaching stints in the Iranian Super League with Saipa, Foolad Tabriz and Sepahan, as well as the Iranian national team.
"I am motivated and excited about the challenge. I am confident that we can get the positive results we desire in this qualification campaign," Firat told journalists in Nairobi.
Kenya sits second in Group E in the second round of Africa's 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers on two points, behind leader Mali with four.
Firat's first assignment is to prepare Kenya for a double-header against Mali, with an away leg on October 8 before the return fixture in Nairobi four days later. Enditem
